What is eating my hibiscus?
Comments (7)"beetles are beetles are beetles'... Good grief! Sevin, one of the deadliest of all chemicals for all kinds of insects, including honeybees and other beneficials, is NOT systemic. Anyhow, Donna...I'm with lacy on this. The hibiscus sawfly causes just that kind of damage (skeletonizing) and hides out on the underside of the leaves like the sneaky things they are. Look for small, green caterpillar-looking critters and let us know. If so, sawfly larvae are pretty easily controlled by insecticidal soap applications directed to the underside of the leaves. They have lots of natural predators that will help you control them, too....See MoreWhat kind of bugs eat/ make holes in hibiscus leaves?
Comments (5)Beatles eat mine awful. It actually looks like lace when they are done. I spray them with Organicide, and they recover quickly. But I spray after dinner, so it dries on the leaf by the next day and the leaf doesn't burn in the sun....See MoreBugs eating lilies and hibiscus- please help!
Comments (0)I never had this problem before- my lilies looked chewed up with black gook on leaves, hibiscus leaves chewed like lace. What can I use and is it too late for my beautiful plants?...See MoreSomething is eating my hibiscus leaves!
Comments (12)Jeff, I know it's hard, but if you can get out there early, look real close on the branch of the plant, I mean stare at it, I swear that's catipillar damage. They are usually on the branches, and when they see you or hear you, they are real still, and sometimes it's hard to see them. If you see one, you have more than one. They are chomping the tops off, that is what catipillars do. I picked 7 or 8 off of one of my plants, just pull them off, they don't bite. Also, wash the bush down real good, there are little black eggs on the bush too, you have to look close to see it. If your problem is catipillars, but that is what my plant looked like, and I caught them. It will take a couple days to find them, they are hard to see, they look like your plant....See Moremarylou_gardener
