Blooms Affected by Early Bloom Season
Comments (10)Mine are doing some of the same- I've been blaming it on the lack of rain but we did have the early heat and now cooler weather. Blooms are lower than usual, including asian and oriental lilies, some are blooming weird-never fully open and I have one yesterday where the entire flower looked fine except for one mushy ugly petal. It looked like the one petal had bloomed the day earlier than the rest and was dying back while the rest of the flower was fine. Flowers that I have had for quite awhile are shorter than usual and smaller blooms, colors on what few have bloomed not as bright as last year. It's still early bloom season, so I don't have many blooming yet-but they aren't at their best....See MoreJust a few more early blooms.
Comments (7)Here's a few more that were open this morning: another blossom of Soleil d'Or Its parent Persian Yellow, which was rather hard to photograph--the petals kept reflecting too much light. another of Persian Yellow's decendents, Harrison's Yellow. Looks quite similar doesn't it? Actually Persian Yellow's blooms are a bit larger. Stanwell Perpetual is very chlorotic this year, so much so that its blooms are white instead of pink. Its actually going to a new home later today, hopefully it will be happier there. Reine des violettes is not looking so violet--I guess is got too hot too quickly to see the really purple blooms it had last autumn. and one more blossom from the Rosa santa Richards not Andrews band befoe I remove it and the rest of the buds and give it a chance to grow. This blossom shows off a bit more of its pink tint than the last post did. I had a few more blooms, but the one of my very favorite rose, Geranium Red, was looking rather battered and I refuse to photograph him looking less than his best. But oh, the fragrance!! Speaking of which, I've always heard Persian Yellow and Harison's Yellow had very bad fragrances, but I found them mild and pleasant....See MoreA Few More Fairly Early
Comments (5)Prairie Moon does not require staking. It is a semi-double. I won't say that stems will never lean, but it is quite upright. Lights Out even more so. Prairie Moon does age with ugly brown spots....See MoreA Cople FFEs, a few REblooms and pretties for early July
Comments (11)Thjank you for looking and commenting. just planted those lilies and left them to do their own thing. As for Golden Delicious. Since I keep posting it, you know I am really enjoying it. nancy, as I said, the lilies just do it. Kate, yes, rebloom really has heated up. Madera Gold has sent up two much taller rebloom scapes so I am excited about that. I thoughe Sugar Magnolia and Navajo Pony had one scape each but now NP has six and SM has four. I have them all over and more keep popping up. and I wanted to ask if you snowball tree/bush has hall snowballs all over it? One of ours does, but the other doesn't; I guess they have differences. Nancy, the lilies in the back didn't do much either; a least t think that; they may not have bloomed yet. I am really liking DAle's Treasure and I will give Fireblast a chace to establis itself befor making any changes. kay...See Moremmmm12COzone5
